Cat 6 vs Cat 6A for commercial buildings

When to specify Cat 6 or Cat 6A for offices, hotels, and PoE++ workspaces — including Indian commercial fit-outs.

Cat 6 and Cat 6A copper network cable

The practical difference

Cat 6 supports 1 Gb/s to 100 m and 10 Gb/s on shorter channels. Cat 6A is designed for 10 Gb/s to 100 m with tighter alien-crosstalk control — the usual choice for dense Wi-Fi, cameras, and high-power PoE++. Axlogix network cables include both U/UTP and screened F/FTP Cat 6A for noisy plant.

What India specs typically ask for

Commercial towers and hotels in India often require LS0H sheaths, 90 m horizontal runs, and PoE++ headroom for access points. Cat 6A is the default for new floors; Cat 6 remains valid for voice, lower-density offices, and refreshes where the channel is already proven.

How to brief Axlogix

Send floor count, outlet density, PoE class, and whether screened copper is required. We return a copper connectivity BOM with matching patch panels, keystone jacks, and patch cords — plus fiber optic riser cables when the building needs a backbone.

Talk through a spec or a quote

Send site type, distances, and density. We reply with datasheets, a draft BOM, and next steps — usually within one business day.
